  • Provides overview of trauma presentations in children, trauma-informed care, evidence-based treatments, comprehensive resource library.

  • Reviews evidence base for various child welfare related programs.

  • Comprehensive list of resources from New York State, includes therapists trained to work with foster care population.
• Coalition of Adoption and Foster Family Agencies
  • Collaboration of foster care agencies across 8 counties in New York State to provide advocacy and raise awareness regarding the child welfare system.
• New York State Kinship Navigator

• Mental Health Advocates of Western New York
  • Provides essential non-clinical services for people with mental illness. Includes support groups, peer advocates, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program.

  • Provides resources for families of and professionals working with children with special needs. Includes educational resources, summer resources, mental health resources.
• Fostering Greatness, Inc.
  • Assists transitioning foster care youth, young adults and alumni of color with life skills, housing stability, education, career advancement, and health management through access, opportunities and community supports.
• Western New York Foster and Adoptive Families Association
  • Local organization. Provides support for children and families in the foster care system. Includes respite services.

Intensive Mental Health Outpatient Services

• Health Home Care Management
  • Utilizes care managers to organize, assist with linkage to health-related services, including ancillary services such as transportation. Must be Medicaid eligible.
• Child and Family Treatment Supports and Services
  • Provides in-home, community supports to children and adolescents at risk of hospitalization or out of home placement. Must be Medicaid eligible.
• Home and Community Based Waiver Services
  • Provides in-home, community supports for children and adolescents with intense mental health needs. Must be Medicaid eligible.
• Mobile Integration Team
  • Short term in-home, community supports to bridge services from higher level of care to lower level of care.
• High Fidelity Wraparound Services
  • Short term (6 months) county run program. Provides intensive in-home, community supports to children and adolescents with significant mental health needs.

  • State run program. Provides in-home, community supports for children and adolescents not eligible for Medicaid.

Community Mental Health Crisis Management

• Spectrum CARES
  • Provides 24-hour phone, in-person crisis therapy, assessment, de-escalation supports for children and adolescents in Erie County. Can help facilitate assessment at CPEP if necessary.

  • State-run program. Provides crisis management services for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities linked with Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.

Mental Health Services in Primary Care

• Project TEACH (formally known as Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Primary Care)
  • Statewide program. Grants pediatric primary care physicians quick access to consultations with child psychiatrists. Consultations usually phone based; some in person.

Partial Hospital Programs

• University of Rochester Partial Hospital Program
  • Two-week long program. Provides intensive treatment for adolescents (ages 12-18) at imminent risk of hospitalization. Program hours similar to school day hours. Program currently virtual but was in-person prior to COVID-19 pandemic.
• Erie County Medical Center
  • Two-week long program. Provides intensive treatment for adults (ages 18 and over) at imminent risk of hospitalization. Program is in person, hours similar to school day hours.

Acute Inpatient Mental Health Facilities

Provide short term psychiatric hospitalization (5-10 days) for children and adolescents.
